Today was the big day for me. I had to prepare a ambush class and Roberson prepared a patrol class. Basically I taught them whatever I learned from the correspondence courses online and so did Roberson. Both of the classes went really well I thought. Then after lunch we set up the actual ambush. It was one of the better days. The HQ pretty much was walking down a strip of open land marked by telephone wires, and we were on the sides waiting for them. The day was drizzling and we were in hiding for quite some time. I often had to go myself to make sure no one was visible. They pretty much saw most of us, except some of us were so deep in the bushes we couldn’t even get out even if we wanted to. I let them walk into my scope, and right as 1SG walked into my sights, I pulled the trigger and yelled FIRE! Of course there was no bullet, and I know I got him right there on a headshot, but all in all I thought that the war games went fairly well. Then we hit them up with water balloons. I think this was pretty much my first taste in Infantry, as far as planning and giving out warning orders and such goes. It really helps me define what is and isn’t really important to talk about, how to move out tactically and how to arrange a platoon for a successful ambush. I had a lot of fun playing around with it, but it was also a pretty big pain in the ass trying to set up everthing. I’m just glad no one got hurt and we had a lot of fun.
