UC Berkeley 199 – Berkeley, California – 2006

2nd Round
IBM – Finance (SEO)
2/13/2006 (11:00 AM – 11:30 AM)
Citigroup, One Sansome Street 28th Floor
“How many gallons of gas does the US use every hour?”
“We couldn’t tell you were nervous. You didn’t look nervous.”
“We will probably recommend you for another round.”
Shit, there’s a third round?
Confidence level I’ll reach next round: 70%

1st Rounds
Deloitte Consulting – Human Capital Summer Scholar
Interviewer 1: Kerry Klein
2/15/06 (3:30pm)
“I gotta go and make another interview phone call.”
Damn, that interview sucked. Never again will I take another phone interview at a park in Berkeley with sirens going off. And why did it get so cold again all of a sudden?

Interviewer 2: Jason Leung
2/16/06 (2:00pm)
“How would you approach a situation that is ambiguous, with no sense of direction or conflicting directions.” (Even that question was ambiguous, damn)
“Yeah I agree, as consultants, we are looking for people that can think like that.”
A lot better. An hour out of my monthly cell phone service, but well worth it.
Confidence level I’ll reach next round: 55-60%

PricewaterhouseCoopers – Assurance Intern
2/14/2006 (1:45 PM – 2:30 PM)
Rm. 344-13 – Career Center, 2111 Bancroft (OCR)
“That’s a really good question. You should have saved that one for the interview tomorrow.”
“Hi Elliott.”
It’s nice to know people remember your name out of hundreds applicants when you go for an interview.
Confidence level I’ll reach next round: 75%

KPMG LLP – Audit Intern
2/15/2006 (1:00 PM -1:30 PM)
Rm. 344-15 – Career Center, 2111 Bancroft (OCR)
“You’re saying all the right things. May I ask who else you’re interviewing with?”
If I don’t get 2nd round, there is something that is fundamentally wrong with my character. If that happens, it’s an obvious sign that tells me since I won’t have an internship during the summer, I should spend that time meticulously analyzing everything I’m doing wrong.
Confidence level I’ll reach next round: 90%

Applications Due
PG&E Business
Deadline 2/23, Interview 3/16, 3/17

REJECTED
Mercer Human Resource Consulting
Ernst & Young – Assurance & Advisory Business Services
Jefferies & Company – Summer Investment Banking Analyst

After I submitted my resume, I realized that I spelled Summer Courses wrong for Ernst & Young application. I wrote out “Summer Curses.” I deserved that rejection. So no hard feelings.
Jeffries, I don’t care much about. Mercer, though, is on my shit list for rejecting Patrick and now me. One day in the near future, when the world trembles at the thought of my name, Mercer will cease to exist in history.
