UC Berkeley 7 – Berkeley, California – 2002

Slept in late, went to lunch with Patrick. Came back, and went to Safeway Supermarket. We bought 160 bucks worth of food/cleaning supplies/misc stuff, altogether of course. The apartment needed major cleaning. So before we put anything in the fridge, we got all the stuff out. A lot of the stuff in there, I have no idea what it’s doing in there or who put it and why and how long. We got everything out, even the drawers, and cleaned it up with soap, dried it up real good, put everything back in that was in a good enough condition to remain in there, cleaned the jars itself cuz most of them had stuck to the glass in the refrigerator for being in there so long, and threw a lot of food out, about 60 percent of whatever was in there to begin with. They were food belonging to nobody that nobody wanted to eat. Maybe I should have packed it up to give to hobos down the street at People’s Park. Oh well. Then we cloroxed the entire kitchen floor, the kitchen tables, and got rid of A LOT of crap from the floor. Now it’s not sticky at all, and it’s actually feeling brand new. I wish I had a before and after picture or something. It looks so much better now, and everything’s been rearranged, reorganized, and looking better than ever. I’m glad Tony and Stephen didn’t feel like they didn’t need to clean up, cuz it really was that bad. Who knows what kind of stuff we had been stepping on? The kitchen hadn’t been cleaned for at least 4 years! And the bathroom too. Well, the bathroom clean up is gonna come later. But the toilet that smelled foul EVERYTIME we used it, is now cleaned. We’re going to clean it better again someday, but for now, we put some tablets and briefly cleaned up all that mildew and nasty stuff that made it smell like $#!t. Now all we need is a vacuum cleaner, and clean the restroom floor and toilet and sink real nice, and we’re done. At least this way next clean up won’t be as bad, and the living condition will be much better. I mean, this place hasn’t had a descent clean up for at least the 3 years that my brother used to live here for, and none of his roommates cared. So we have 1 huge trashbag filled with a lot of crap that’s been ignored for days, weeks, months, even years by former residents, and we’re starting a new and fresh. As you can probably tell, I’m very excited about this opportunity, and maybe this piece of dump we moved into will look a lot better after the cleanup is finally finished in a few days/week. Ate dinner at midnight, watching Comedy Central on TV, eating spaghetti Stephen made.
