Army Basic Training 27 – Ft. Jackson – 2001

Couldn’t write for a while.  We shot to zero and went to Lomar on Monday, where the computer tells the coach where the bullets hit, on a 75, 175 and 300 meter targets.  We couldn’t go, our platoon, cuz we had kitchen duty all day.  But for those that didn’t zero on Friday, we went to zero that day, including me.   Tuesday we shot pop-up targets from 75m, 175 m, and 300 m.  There, I found out why I didn’t qualify in any other day except on Thursday.  I couldn’t hit anything.  On Monday, the captain had told me something’s wrong with it, too, cuz he tried to group my weapon himself, but every shot went all over the paper like mine: every 3 round filled up a quarter of the paper target.  So on Tuesday, I got a chance to utilize the weapons truck, when they got a stick and shoved it down the barrel.  It didn’t come out, which meant my barrel was crooked.  And they had to fix up my trigger cuz my weapon jammed too often.  They fixed my weapon up real good, took an entire hour to get a new barrel.  But I still couldn’t shoot after that, and on Wednesday, we found out why: I wasn’t zeroed with my new barrel.  I had to aim low and left of the targets to hit it.  So later, with 12 clicks left and 4 clicks up, I finally got my weapon zeroed, ready to shoot, kill, whatever.  Thursday, along with Wednesday, we went to the qualifying range to practice.  50m, 100m, 150m, 200m, 250m and 300 m targets popped up randomly just like what will happen on qualification day.
