UC Berkeley 5 – Berkeley, California – 2002

D-Day. Tony comes by at 7 AM as promised, and I wake up 5 minutes before he does. When he does come, I’m hungry, and we stop by McDonald’s for some breakfast meals, stop by Matt’s to say final good bye, and head up to Berkeley. Arrival at Berkeley at 2PM. We run into the landlord today. Stephen was here, but here’s what happened. Tony’s parents helped us unload the car, and Tony, Stephen, and I went upstairs with the first of two batches of equipment we were taking upstairs. Well, it so happened that while we were up, the landlord starts talking to Tony’s parents, who were downstairs guarding the rest of the equiptment. And so his parents, not knowing jack, tells the landlord that there are gonna be 4 people living here, even though we’re only allowed 3 to divide the rent. The landlord becomes quite upset, and when we come down, he asks us questions… whose moving out, whose going where, demanding that some of us sign some papers. SO! The story now is…Jiehoon’s still here, in case the Indian guy gets stuck with the landlord and has to sign some papers, Tony’s moving in for Ted, I’m helping my brother move in, and he’s gonna be here in a while. And Stephen is just a friend that happens to come by very often. So we made up this story and went downstairs to find the landlord to tell him this story, but he was nowhere to be found. But that’s the story for now.

I have eaten my first dinner I prepared myself. Galbi mom has so deliciously prepared, and rice that Stephen had. I think I might be alright… for a while. I plan on buying some bread, peanut butter, jelly, cloth hangers, and etc. And Edward… you left a MESS. You were living foul! and you call yourself a lietenant? I mean… damn… all the dust I cleaned up… I got a rag that I cleaned up every minute or so cleaning out the closet and the desks and under the window… what the hell is up with the windowsill anyway? We cleaned that up too, though… thank god. It’s pretty exciting now, looking at where I’m going to live for probalby the next four years.

So we cleaned out anything and almost everything in our room, including the closet, the desks, the drawers, you name it. We got as much dirt out as possible. Where the hell’s the vacuume cleaner? And the toilet smells foul…I don’t have internet on my computer yet, so I’m using Tony’s at the moment. He went out with his parents and should be back soon
after eating dinner with his parents and their friends that are also sending a kid to berkeley under pre-law. I bet Tony’s gonna feel intimidated!

Stephen’s quite a character. I like him already. And actually, his father’s cousin’s son, named Jeff Cho, is my school classmate. not a close friend of mine, but i knew of him. I thought he resembled someone I knew…

Right now, the room looks a bit messy, but everything’s been very much cleaned up, getting ready to start school, of course, and my desk is actually looking pretty neat. Tony and I already split up the closet. More cleaning up to do soon.
