Iraq War – Operation Iraqi Freedom War 28 – Ft. McCoy, Wisconsin – 2003

Only 2 more days till the Friday flight.  So we were given some part of the morning to pack.  Most of the time we were supposed to be doing something, we finished early, so we went on packing.  Like this morning, we played Double Jeopardy, a little game SGT Figueroa made up consisting of various questions regarding Army regulations and what not.  PT, land navigation, M 18, M16, stuff like that.  We had a lot of fun, but we also turned in all of our gear this day.  Our footlocker and our 2 duffel bags.  So we took some time to go to the PX and buy some last minute stuff before we left.  Spent another 20 dollars mailing home various things, some stuff I needed at Ft. McCoy but didnt need as much at Middle East, like spare BDUs and spare PTs.  Our stuff was being paletized, so we went to go help out with that, took a little bit, but I did manage to get my guitar in there.  It had a lot to do with chance.  I wasn’t even supposed to be there, I had finished my part of packing earlier, so I went with the crowd.  Then when I came back, Sanchez was trying to ship a refrigerator, so I figured might as well try to ship my guitar, too, the worst they can do is say no.  So we tried.  And they let us, with more ease than I thought.  Good thing I bought the hard case, too, instead of the soft one CPT Akagi had gotten.  Hopefully this means that I’ll get more time to practice once I’m in country.
