UC Berkeley 240 – Berkeley, California – 2006

1st Round:
Google’s Financial Analyst position (9 October 06)
This was by far my worst interview ever. The only thing that might have helped out is that the interviewer personally picked out my resume, that I did at IBM pretty much what the interviewer is doing at Google, that I knew a bunch of Google products, knew their market cap, and that I was dressed kinda nice, and that I came in twice in one day for one interview… The things that screwed me over, I couldn’t explain NPV in a way he can understand, got FV and PV mixed up, and I had trouble with income statements and explaining Revenues and Expenses, although I did say since they’re a services company, they probably spend a lot more on overhead… so I said they spend more money on people, at which point he said, yeah, people = payroll, that’s our biggest cost of goods sold. He asked how do we generate our revenues, and I said probably through AdWords and directly selling to consumers, in the scenario’s case, a $3.95 charge on each video sold. Why major in Business? What do you know about the philosophy of Google? What is your favorite Google product? What’s CAGR? No behavioral questions at all…
