Cartagena is hot, and I woke up for about an hour at 2AM adjusting the fan and wondering how the hell I’m going to fall back asleep. I then slept till 9:30AM.
I used the internet till about 11 AM and walked around the city, first heading up to the San Diego area and looking around there. I was intrigued by the brief walk around Cartagena yesterday, but was able to fully appreciate the beauty of this city of old and new and everything in between today. I’ve never seen anything quite like it. The walls were thick as hell, and I’m sure some cannonballs just bounced right off of them. All throughout the day, I just kept saying to myself, “man, these people sure did it right.”
I did feel a little unsafe in a few spots, but I do feel safer here than I did in Panama. I can’t wait to get to Peru, though. I can’t wait to be on the road again, period. I haven’t done much driving in the past 10 days and it’s getting to me. I kind of feel like I’m having to start all over again.
Just went to go get dinner at 7:15 PM at a restaurant around the corner and I felt very unsafe. Maybe I’m being a little too cautious? But it’s not America around here…
I walked around and saw a lot of things today, but for whatever reason, I don’t have much to say. It was more of an experience of sights than feeling.
