GMAT Preparation 8 – IBM – Financial Analyst – New York – 2007

So I still have my braces after 3 years of TMJ treatment and will continue to see my dentist in Berkeley for the next 1.5-2 years every 2 months or so. This past weekend, I did just that. Here’s how that went down:
Thursday: Skipped lunch, left work at 12:45PM
Instead of a 30 minute drive, the highway traffic set me back another 30 minutes, and I nearly missed my hourly train ride at 2PM. I got home at 1:45PM, frantically packed in 10 minutes and ran to the train station (it’s about a 90 second run to the train station I live so close to). I missed the train, which meant I was going to be arriving at JFK about 30 minutes before take off… didn’t think I had much of a chance so I was contemplating on driving, wasting money on gas, pay toll, and $15 a night for parking. But it turned out that a train broke down in the middle of the tracks and they were busing people around it to the trains parked on either side. So I caught the 2PM train at 2:15, and got to JFK by 4:15PM, after 50 minutes on the train and about an hour on the subway, plus another 15 minutes on the Airtrain from subway to JFK. I got to San Jose at 9PM, 30 minutes earlier than scheduled. Chad, my former roommate picked me up.

Friday: Left at 8AM for the bus station that took an hour to get from San Jose to arrive at Fremont at 9:30AM. 15 minute walk to the dentist office for an 10:30 AM appointment. After 2 hours of dental treament and $1000 down the drain, I hop on the BART subway at 1PM for a 2PM train ride. AirBart gets me to Oakland airport at 2:15PM, I take the 3PM flight to Los Angeles. Land at 4PM. Take the Green Line to the metro, and take the metro to Norwalk, about 5 miles away from home, and get picked up by mom at around 5:30PM.

Saturday: Watched American Gangster with mom, celebrating her birthday in person a month late. I brought back 50 more pounds than I left with, thing I had forgotten to pack with me the first time out here to New York. Flew red eye out of Long Beach, 9:45PM

Sunday: Arrived at JFK at 4:50AM (includes daylight savings). After 3 hours of airtrain, subway, and metro north, I finally got back home at 8AM and crashed. I woke up in time to watch the game on the century on my Toshiba 37″ LCD HDTV. I couldn’t go back to sleep, so I worked, read up about 200 pages on Greenspan’s Age of Turbulence book, another 20 pages on the GMAT book and slept from 3AM to 8AM for work on Monday. I woke up with a huge migraine, partly due to TMJ, partly due to jet lag, but probably mostly due to fatigue from spending some 24 hours on the road and in the air.

Popping
Raul Midon – Pick Somebody Up. My gosh, he’s amazing. Too bad
Those damn Toyota Tundra commercials. I don’t even like trucks but damn I want one.
37″ Toshiba Regza LCD HDTV. First Toshiba, would highly recommend to anyone.
Pioneer DV 400V K Multi Format 1080p HDMI Upscaling DVD Player. Very impressed.
Semi Monthly paychecks. Finally making some dough.
German facebook. It’s much more interesting when you don’t understand a thing!
Resealable 4.5 oz Peanut M&Ms.
House. I don’t understand a thing they’re talking about, but it makes me feel smart just watching it. (that’s some bad hat, harry)
iPhone commercials. I’ve never seen a ballet and I’ll probably hate it, but I wanna see one, but it has to be at New York City Ballet…

In between
GMAT. These GMAT prep books are revealing how little I know about math and english.
Chicago Cutlery, they’re sharp as hell. On a completely unrelated note, let’s just say that I should never do the dishes.

Boring
Elevators that jump, stop, and bob for half a minute before finally opening.
Hondas. Will never buy a Honda again.
Taxes. Damn!!
IKEA’s delivery service. Buy and pick up in person. Delivering took 2 weeks.
This house’s internet. It’s seriously down more often than it is up.
The Mazda commercials with a hundred black people clapping their hands and singing zoom-zoom. Least inspired commercial ever.
College football. For no reason whatsoever, this season got really, really lame.
Passing trains. They make a lot of noise. And seem to actually cause the wi fi to go down.
Army. They still email and call me regularly, urging me to come back to Active Reserve. They spam me at least once a week: Why don’t you try the Army Reserves?? (UNCLASSIFIED)…. FW: IRR Notification #0344867 (UNCLASSIFIED)… retention (UNCLASSIFIED)
NY Cops. Between the 12 highway miles of the 22 miles to work, I probably see 3 cars a week pulled over by a cop. Everyone does 65-70 mph around here.
“Celebrate” College Football song. I— Just Wanna Celebrate (X 19832413). This crappy song is stuck in my head and it’s annoying as hell.

Anyone else think George W. Bush has Alzheimers? He compared himself to Harry Truman (astrocized in term, glorified after death), and I bet he will later compare himself to Ronald Reagan.
