How incredible. How phenomenal as it was improbable! 21 months ago, a man took a single step on an extraordinary journey with not much more than the dreams of his father.
We made history tonight. And history will look upon us as the generation that broke through the bound. History will bear witness to the magnificent power that we hold within the collective us.
He will carry with him the hopes of an entire nation; a daunting call to arms that will redefine for our new President the very definition of inexplicable joy as well as solemn loneliness. Most of us will envy the man but not the task.
Let’s celebrate the moment but not not dwell in it. We did not simply elect one man to accomplish the task. We voted today our dedication to that which he represents: our dedication to carry the burden, to eradicate our doubts, and to fulfill our destiny. We’ve got a lot of work ahead of us. But the future has never looked brighter for me than it does tonight.
This is the greatest nation on earth. On the morrow, we will be even better than we were today.
