The iPhone 4G means it’s 4th generation. But that didn’t stop them from naming the iPhone 3G when it was just their 2nd generation. iPhone 4G is a marketing stunt to make it seem like they’ve really changed something about the iPhone when realistically, it’s the same OS since the first generation. Really the only thing that changed is the hardware, which is not to par with pretty much behind every other smartphone coming out these days. And the fact that I can’t choose my hardware options (keyboard, hdmi out, camera, real 4G connectivity, tethering to name a few) and I have just 1 hardware option to choose from really begs the question why you would consider the iPhone to be revolutionary. The first 2 years, the iPhone was heads and shoulders above everyone. Not so much anymore.

The Apple marketing division did a great job of selling its “outlaw” marketing archetype, but now that the “have-nots” company has become the “haves,” it has inevitably changed its stance from challenging the status-quo to keeping it at all cost. This about face is what frustrates a lot of consumers, and the fact that some people still refuse to recognize that and simply buys anything that Apple is selling is what seems to irk the pragmatic consumer who votes with their wallets and brains.

1st generation = iPhone
2nd generation = iPhone 3G (3G connectivity)
3rd generation = iPhone 3GS = (3G connectivity)
4th generation = iPhone 4G (3G connectivity)

My 6 year old computer finally died (built on June 2004 thanks to Mr. Patrick Yu). I guess some people thought I had a more recent one because I worked at IBM and what not, but I never did buy myself one while working there. I picked up a Lenovo Y560 (i7 processor, 4GB ram, ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5730 1GB, 15.6″ wide screen) for $950 including tax. Another 6 years with this computer?
