You know what’s really weird… I sometimes have these ‘jolts’ let’s call them that wakes me up momentarily. It’s kind of like when you watch those movies and tv shows they use those electric shock things (defibrillator, thanks Patrick) and my body reacts like that. Last thing I remember before I opened my eyes momentarily was being eaten by a giant this time around.
I went to the Cal game yesterday, not to watch, but to raise funds for the upcoming Winter Retreat with FICB. Well, I ended up watching the game anyway. From where we were standing, we had a pretty good view. We were selling Churros and Pretzels mostly. They were stinking expensive, like 3 bucks for Churros and 4 bucks for Pretzels. What a ripoff. But people were buying them by the bulk! For a while it was me and this girl named Nancy, and Connie from Haas helped out, too, (thanks Connie) and James from KCM was hawking (is that how you spell it? he was the one with the warmer basket walking up and down the stadium). So we were really busy. There were some people hitting on Nancy and I was upset because they were just being assholes and annoying the hell out of her. Unfortunately, though, our propane ran out at the beginning of halftime, so we didn’t sell as much as we know we could have. We got another can like 15 minutes later, when everyone was starting to settle down already. But man, we got so many broken churros by ‘accident’ mostly, it almost made me sick. We also sold some frozen lemonade and ice cream, both of which I surprisingly found sold at all. And after it was all said and done, we had spent 8 total hours, from 3:30 PM till 11:30, working at this stand. So we were all tired and so I just took off and came home. It was really freezing up there on the stadium, too, and like Alice said, you can definitely tell the difference in temperature just on our way back down.
So yeah I didn’t really wanna go at first because we were supposed to prep starting 5:30, and when they told us to meet at 3:30, I was thinking, damn, that’s a long time! But like that SF Golden Gate biking trip, I’m really glad I went. I got to meet a few really cool people, watched the game (sometimes) for free and made some cash towards the retreat. And I met these two really cool old Cal alumnis that are pres and vice pres of their company that was sitting directly over the fence where we were working. You know, they really displayed some class right there, and I could help but feel respectful towards them.
The game, though, could have been better. We shut them out, so you might be thinking, what are you talking about? Well, if you know, the TV replays show that the first fumble probably wasn’t a fumble (the ground can’t cause a fumble) and the first and the only touchdown pass by Rodgers was also being bobbled on his way out, and shouldn’t have counted. So there are those two instances. Our top 3 star receivers are out, so Rodgers actually threw a lot better than the stats indicate because all the newbie receivers dropped a few passes that should have been caught. Special teams did a good job just catching the ball and going back to the fundamentals. Our offensive line did a fine job creating a bubble for Rodgers (offense, first in the nation), and koodos to our defense (14th in the nation at the time) for limiting their offense. Now we’re up to 4th in the nation according to AP, 6th according to ESPN. I smell roses!
I didn’t go to church today. Instead I slept, because I have an econ midterm tomorrow that I should be studying for and I was feeling really tired. Tony couldn’t get up to shut off his alarm clock today, 3 times! So Patrick got up just as I was getting up to tell him, and the second time around he just banged on the wall. The third time I’m not sure what he did, I think he just screamed for him to shut it off.
I made my first batch of cookies without Patrick helping me like he did last time. The first batch of 30 came out all burnt (damn!) but the second batch came out just fine (yes!). You know, they say the way to a woman’s heart is straight to her stomach. YUM.
I just listened to the new A Perfect Circle CD Emotive. You know, they have some great songs in their previous CDs, like 3 Libras is a really famous one, and Weak and Powerless is another classic you should really listen to. But on this one, I can only really recommend Passive for sure, maybe Imagine (remake, same lyrics, on the radio now) or What’s Going on, or People are People. Other songs remind me a lot of Bjork, and I didn’t like her last album Medulla too much either.
November is here. And you know that that means: applications for UCs are due. I’m guaranteed to Berkeley as long as I maintain my 3.33, but Haas is another matter. I hope I can get in, but my GPA isn’t the greatest. I don’t think the one of two Bs I got so far (and the only ones I hope) really matters (I got it overseas, Philosophy class) but I do wish I had gotten an A in the Business Admin Cerritos College class I took when I was a junior in high school. I’d sleep a lot better, too, especially since I got one of my only 2 Bs in one of the most crucial classes for this major. I mean, the class name is the same as the name of the major.
