UC Berkeley 163 – Berkeley, California – 2005

So I had one of the weirdest dreams the other day. I don’t remember too much of it, except that I was in a plane, but it was shaped like a battleship. And we were going from California to Brazil, but we had to stop by a lake in Bolivia or something. The lake was surrounded by a city landscaped by high rises and it was one of the most beautiful sights I’ve seen that doesn’t exist. I was swimming out in the lake when a bunch of these battleships were landing all around me in the lake, and I was scared of getting crushed under these flying battleships. Supposedly it was some tourist place that people were coming to swim in. Then we took off to Brazil, and I woke up.

I went student managing for the Cal Football team for the first time on Friday the 1st. I liked it a lot, actually. I liked being out there, on the field, just working with the football team. I was working with the quarterbacks and the runningbacks for a while when Marshawn Lynch threw a ball to me. I caught it and he said it in a cool way, “nice catch.” I just said thanks. I also had a great conversation with coach Tedford. He was coming around my way, so I said hi coach, and he said “Your shoes are untied.” It was. I worked a lot with the QBs and the kickers. I wasn’t too impressed when they had the offense vs the defense going at it. There were a bunch of interceptions. The quarterbacks don’t look so refined. I suppose our running game will have to pick up next year by a lot. The only problem with this job is the hours. I don’t know if I can handle 30+ hours of working every month for the fall semester, especially because I’m going to be new to Berkeley and I don’t know if my expectations for the workload is going to be under or overestimated.

But this is only a problem if I get into Haas. If I don’t, I’m sure I’ll be fine with my Sociology major.

It was Tony’s birthday last night. But we celebrated his birthday by heading over to Sushi house with Christine on Wednsday night instead because we knew Karen’s bday party was going to be held on the same day as his real birthday. He woke up late, so we didn’t have too much to worry about trying to keep him occupied. During the night we went to dinner at Pyramid Ale. I ordered the salmon, but I’ll try the burger next time. I believe I succeeded in getting Tony drunk for his birthday. We had a pitcher of Amber Ale, which he finished pretty much half of, and I ordered him a couple Lemon drops. Then we headed to Blake’s, where his quest for drunkenness continued on with a Jack and Coke, a Appletini, and a Buttery Nipple. Afterwards Patrick and I handed him his birthday gift. Overall, a fulfilling day. Happy 21st birthday Tony and Karen!

Mike Lee and Danny Yoon and I biked up to Lawrence Hall of Science. We actually took a trail that took us around the hills to head up. It must have been some 5-6 miler. It took us about an hour to get up there, but only about 10 minutes to get down. We were heading down so fast we had to slow down for a minivan that crossed in front of us in the 35 mph speed limit zone. It was one of the most exhilarating moments in my life.
