MBA Preparation 67 – House Party – Financial Analyst – New York – 2010

A friend of mine has been really helpful throughout my MBA application process so far. I was really struggling to answer the “What matters most to you and why” question and I think he’s really helped me out with that, although I’m still far from done. Also, he asked the “why MBA” question and apparently my answers weren’t good enough for him. That was simply awesome for me, for someone to be able to say what’s really on their mind. Thank you.

He also asked, what’s your second best option? Meaning, what would you do if you don’t get into a top MBA school? Until then my default answer was set at nothing, wait till next year. Basically, my options were 1) get in, 2) try again next year, or 3) just give up trying.

So I think that really magnified my roller coaster ride. I would obviously prefer option 1, but the other options were conversely very unsatisfactory. I think if I don’t get into MBA school this year, I’m going to spend a great deal of time next year on learning how to program simple mobile applications. Goal would be to produce 1) a Business Plan, and 2) Proof-of-concept for an idea that I have. I would love to hire someone else to produce proof of concept, but I unfortunately simply don’t have the capital to do so. I really wish I took programming seriously when I was 17.

Mistaken Identity in Nostalgia: For some really odd reason, I was thinking about my basic training days today. There were 3 Asian guys in our entire training platoon of 60 trainees. I guess we all looked alike, especially with our buzz cuts and thick birth-control-glasses, so called for their not-so-enviable ability to turn every Brad Pitt into a chick repellent. Adding to the confusion was the fact that the Jun brothers were actually twins. Well, so the platoon was practicing marching in formations, and one of the Jun twins made a mistake. But the drill sergeant didn’t know any better, and called ME to fall out of formation. I guess this is one of those stories that’s not really funny unless both of us were here to recall on the event,, but it was cool to remember something like that that happened almost 10 years ago.
