Army Basic Training 9 – Ft. Jackson – 2001

0720 hours
Barely missed the drill sergeant last night. Something I left out on what happened Sunday. We got to call home. Most of us talked to our parents. By then, everyone cried. 8 phones, 3 minutes to call with calling cards, and 60 people waiting in line. We didn’t say much, but it sure got pretty emotional. On every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings, we run 2 miles, in platoon formation, A, B, C, D forms, 4 platoons in every formation. There’s 240 people in our company, exactly half of them males. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, we go on MS. I don’t know what it stands for, but we do 10 normal pushups, 10 normal situps, 10 wide pushups, 10 switch situps, 5 diamond pushups, 10 situps holding it halfway down, in that order. And we do that 3 times. Our platoon was ahead of everyone else, so we did 4 sets instead. Then came back, and we’re cleaning up. Almost 0820 hours, formation time. I bet we’re doing more marching, about 3 hours, lunch, then classrooms leaning about whatever, like spies, financial info, ranking systems and such. Then gone to chow again, and clean ourselves before sleeping. Gotta go.
